Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and How It Relates to Hair Loss

Polycystic ovary, which develops in the form of a large number of small and benign cysts in the ovaries, is a female disease. It causes many complaints, such as weight gain, hair loss, and acne formation. The problem of the inability to have children is common due to the deterioration of ovulation patterns.

Numerous cysts in the ovaries disrupt the hormonal structure and cause hair loss and acne formation. This disorder affects the quality of life and external appearance negatively by disrupting the outer appearance. Therefore, it is a type of disease that brings psychological problems and must be treated.

Although the disease does not show any symptoms during the initial period, it starts to show itself as it progresses. And though the symptoms vary depending on the individual, the common symptoms seen in most women are as follows:

  • Irregular period
  • Weight gain
  • Hair loss
  • Skin spots

The symptoms mentioned above are common ones. Hair loss is a significant problem among these symptoms and may also negatively affect the psychology of the patient.

Treatment of Hair Loss Caused by Polycystic Ovary

Hair loss due to hormones mostly occurs in the middle part of the scalp. Unlike hair loss in men, the vertex and the front hairline hair strands usually do not shed. Hair loss due to hormones often shows a slow start and slow progress.

Thinning of the hair is the most common indication of hormone-related hair loss. Acne and menstrual irregularities may accompany hair loss in polycystic ovary syndrome. Therefore, when you see these signs, you can consult a doctor.

To minimise these undesirable complications of polycystic ovary syndrome, you can follow the suggestions below.

  • Take medication for unstable menstruation.
  • You can stick to a strict and nutritious diet to nourish your hair and prevent weight gain. Take particular care to consume foods that contain enough iron, zinc, and B vitamins.
  • There is evidence that onion juice, saw palmetto, coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, creatine, and pumpkin seed oil are useful for hair loss related to hormones.
  • Shampoos are products that clean the hair, but the ingredients in them can increase their effects and help prevent hair loss. The important thing here is to make choices suitable for the scalp and structure. It is also essential to choose a shampoo according to the diagnosis and recommendation of your doctor.

Usually, the hair becomes normal again within six to nine months after the right treatment method of polycystic ovary. Therefore, the first thing you have to do is to remedy the disorder, which causes hair loss. Hair has a significant role in the life of both women and men. Therefore, it is crucial to consult your doctor for possible treatments as early as possible.
