What to Expect After Liposuction – A Look at Recovery and Results

Wanting to have a nice, attractive appearance is something that most people can agree as a goal they have in mind.

There’s nothing shameful about undergoing liposuction to get rid of those pockets of fat that seem to be going nowhere with diet and exercise.

As with any surgery, the procedure will put a great strain on your body. During it, the surgeon will effectively change your body shape by manipulating the level of fat underneath the skin.

The process brings dramatic changes inside and out after being performed. It is imperative to let the body heal at its own pace from the trauma involved.

Recovering After Liposuction

After the surgery, for swelling and bruising around the body is normal. Your surgeon will ask you to wear a compression garment for a month, these aid in healing the incisions. Also, the prescription of antibiotics will help you avoid infections, take them as required.

The weeks following the recovery should look like this:

  • 1st & 2nd week: bruising and swelling persist.
  • 3rd & 4th week: Most of the pain will subside, bruising and swelling would still be visible.
  • 5th and 6th week: Incisions should be fully healed, results start showing.
  • 7th week: Most of the swelling and bruising should have healed completely, the results now fully showing.

Follow the doctor’s instructions to ensure a satisfactory recovery.

Tips for Recovery After Liposuctions

Taking the following steps can aid your process of recovery after liposuction surgery.

Do Not Swim

Swimming or otherwise getting into the water, be it beach or pool, is not advisable at all. The recovering body is prone to infections and just so happens that germs and bacteria love to swim too. Pools and beaches are playgrounds for such organisms. Due to this, avoid entering any body of water until the incision from your surgery is completely healed.

Go for A Walk

Walking happens to be one low impact, easy activity you can safely engage in that’s effective in keeping you active.

Drink Water Until Fully Hydrated

The intake of water helps subside the inflammation and swelling stemming from the surgery. Drink eight glasses of water daily or more until fully hydrated.

Results from Liposuction

The results from the procedure are apparent the minute you step out the operation table, even with much bruising and swelling.

It is not until at least six weeks past the procedure that you can fully appreciate the results from liposuction.

After both bruising and swelling are completely gone, the new frame of your body becomes visible.

Your body shape looks leaner, the operated zones slimmer, and likely you feel more than a bit lighter.

If you had particularly large fat deposits extracted, expect to see a measure of hanging skin that used to house it. Liposuction itself does not treat the loose skin, which is more notable around the arms and abdomen. Tummy tuck and Brachioplasty procedures are available to treat such skin remnants from liposuction.
