How to Prepare for a Face-Lift

A face-lift operation may prove useful if you are seeking to obtain a younger-looking, more wrinkle-free face. In a face-lift operation, our doctor tightens the skin around your face. To do this, our doctor expels excess fat and skin tissue so that the remaining skin tissue has a tighter look.

This article is to give you a better idea about how we perform this operation. Additionally, it is to give you tips on what you should do or know about face-lifts as well.

Requirements before a Face-Lift

When preparing for a face-lift, we may ask or advise you to do certain things and to avoid other things. These include the following:

  • Adjustments on the medication you use. Most importantly, you should not take aspirin or anti-inflammatory medication, mainly because these medications interfere with surgical operations.
  • Stop smoking awhile before the operation and do not smoke for at least a while after the face-lift operation as well.
  • Stop using certain beauty products on your face.
  • Get the proper blood tests or medical examination to ensure you are fit for this operation.

After you take these necessary steps, you are ready for your face-lift surgery. Also, we highly recommend bringing a family member or a friend to escort you during the surgery.

How Does the Procedure Take Place?

We take three major steps during the operation. They are anaesthesia application, incision, and suturing.

The First Step: Anaesthesia Application

In order to give you a comfortable experience, we administer certain medications. In our centre, we do this operation either under IV sedation or general anaesthesia. Your doctor will pick the most suitable option for you.

The Second Step: Making an Incision

The size and the place of the incision differ according to your expectations out of the surgery and how you look at the present.

In a traditional face-lift, we begin making the incision around the temples, where the hairline begins. Then we move on around the ear and ends around where the nape area begins. In some operations, we take away some fat tissue. In others, we may transfer fat around the face to get an aesthetic improvement. Often we apply some lifting to certain muscles as well. We set the underlying tissue to our target. After that, we pull the skin around the incision sites and finally take away the excess skin tissue. Sometimes an incision under the patient’s chin may be necessary too, especially when we want a slight neck-lift alongside the face-lift.

The Final Step: Sutures

To finalise the face-lift operation, we suture together the ends of skin tissue we separated. Some kinds of sutures dissolve in the patient’s body without intervention, and some need removal by professionals. Once these incisions heal, they are not very visible to the observing eye. Our hair and natural lines around the ear hide these tiny scars pretty well.
