Beard Transplant Recovery: What patients should know about healing?

Men, nowadays, are as concerned about their appearances and style as women are. For this, the beard has become more important as it has a variety of fashion styles and adds beauty to the personality. Thankfully, beard transplant recovery has made it possible for the men to grow a full and thick beard.

What is a beard hair transplant?

In this process, cosmetologists take hair from any other part of the body and transplant it on the face on required areas. The number of hair procedures is 4000-7000 and some surgeons. Often use two hair per graft for ensuring the more natural look of beard after growing. However, there are some post-operative precautions and conditions which patients must know for rapid and hygienic recovery. Once a patient recovers, the result of the transplant is a natural look and no more discomfort.

How many days should a patient be off from work?

For this, consultation with the doctor would be more helpful. Otherwise, patients would need at least a week to look presentable and healthy.

The surgery day:

After the transplant, the donor area remains sore, tight, itchy and red. Numbness is also expected due to the medication. The transplanted area remains numb mostly. Patients must not wash the surgical area for 24 hours at least.

The first week after surgery:

The discomfort in the donor area starts to disappear. Later, the transplanted area becomes red, and some swelling may appear in some areas. The donor area will scab slowly, and it will disappear slowly during the shower. And the transplanted area will also recover from the redness and swelling. However, patients need to be regular on prescribed medication and the patient. Further, patients need to follow the post-operative cleansing instructions strictly given by the surgeon. The patient should sleep flat and with an elevated head to make the recovery process rapid.

After the first week:

After the first week or 9-10 days, the transplanted hair of the beard will start shedding, and new hair growth starts after some days of shedding. Itchiness, redness, numbness, soaring and tightness of the surgical area are some common side effects which patients of beard transplant experience in post two weeks of surgery.

The proper recovery of the transplant depends upon proper aftercare and patience of the patient. It’s very much similar to hair transplant surgery. Antibiotics prescribed by the surgeon should be properly and timely applied in addition to these precautions.

What NOT to do?

Make sure not to do any of the following activities after the surgery for a few weeks; otherwise, the duration of recovery will increase.

Avoid direct sunlight, touching, rubbing and scratching the transplanted area. Try not to do any exercise or heavy physical activity and make sure there should be no or less sweating for a few days. The patient must avoid alcoholic beverages and smoking. Additionally, the patient should refrain from hot water or steam.

In a few weeks, hair starts growing back, and skin also recovers; therefore, the patient can shave the beard without any worry. However, medication needs a doctor’s consultation.
