How much fat/weight can be removed by liposuction?

Feeling comfortable in our own skin is very important for all of us. The way we look affects our psychology directly. However, our physical appearance mostly depends on our genes. You may have genetically excess fat in a certain area. In this case, even if you exercise regularly or watch what you eat carefully, you may not be able to get rid of that excess fat.

Today, with the help of technology, it is possible to change some parts of our body as we want. Liposuction is one of the best methods that we use in this sense. In this surgery, the doctor extracts the fat tissue that you cannot reduce by exercise and diet. However, liposuction is definitely not a method of losing weight; it is a method of shaping the body. This limits the amount of fat the doctors remove during liposuction.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is the process of removing localized fat with a thin tube with the help of negative pressure. The name of this thin tube is cannula. You can undergo the liposuction surgery for your abdomen, inner and outer thigh, hips, knee and under your chin. The doctors also treat gynecomastia, which means the enlargement of breasts in men with liposuction. In this operation, the doctor places the cannula into the fat tissue by making very small incisions and reduces the fat cells by pulling them out with the vacuum.

It is necessary to know the maximum amount of fat that the doctor can remove safely in a liposuction operation. Scientifically, the surgeon can remove %10 of your weight. However, when we say a safe amount, this amount is generally between 2.5 and 4 litres. If you need a second operation, you should wait for at least three months.

On the other hand, the weight that you lose will not be too much. As we mentioned before, liposuction is not a weight loss surgery. Considering that the doctor takes 2.5-4 litres of fat out in one session, this amount will not cause a significant change in your overall body weight. In contrast, thinning will be in the area where liposuction is applied.

Is Liposuction Safe?

The doctors usually perform liposuction surgery under general anaesthesia. This means you will not feel any pain during the surgery. It also has very low-risk rates with minimum discomfort when we compare it to other traditional surgeries.  As long as you undergo this operation under the supervision of an experienced doctor and a good team, you will not encounter any major risks before or after the operation.

It is also very important to consider your doctor’s suggestions. If you follow all the instructions that your doctor gives strictly, it will be very easy for you to reach the body image that you always desire. All you have to do is to trust your doctor and enjoy amazing results.
