How to Know If FUE Hair Transplant Is Right for You

It may be interesting to know that two-fifths of the United Kingdom’s male population is suffering from hair loss. Also, the country ranks fifth in the world with the most number of bald and balding people. However, don’t let the statistics scare your confidence away. Getting frustrated over hair loss is now a thing of the past.

Thanks to advancements in the field of medicine and technology, people now have access to sophisticated and innovative medical procedures like FUE (follicular unit extraction). Before you decide which technology would work well with you, it is essential that you must have a basic knowledge of why you are experiencing hair loss.

I’m Losing More Hair Every Day

Normally, we shed about one hundred strands of hair daily. But for those who are suffering from hair loss, this number gradually increases from age thirty. By the age of fifty, bald spots will be more prominent. At age seventy, roughly only about 10 per cent of the hair follicles are functional.

There are two common culprits behind hair loss among men:

  • Male pattern baldness. This condition is caused by high levels of testosterone among men.  An M-shaped receding hairline is an initial sign. Later on, as hair loss progresses, the hairline becomes U-shaped or horseshoe-like in appearance.
  • Alopecia areata. This condition is not gender-linked; it affects both men and women. It is an autoimmune disorder wherein the immune system sees hair follicles as a foreign object and would attempt to eliminate it. Hair will fall out in alarming quantities because of this.

With the two causative agents mentioned above, it is important to determine the reason for your hair loss since it will serve as a basis for follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplant.

What Is Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) Hair Transplant

Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is an invasive surgery, at the microscopic level, that involves transferring a single healthy follicle into a nonfunctional follicle area. The whole process is both tedious and sophisticated. As such, it requires a highly skilled and qualified plastic surgeon to perform it. We have one such doctor in our centre. The operation can last up to eight hours since the surgeon must meticulously, carefully, and accurately transfer the donor follicle to its recipient area.

Since follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplant only does microincision to the recipient area, they are no visible scarring or marks. This technique also has faster compared with other methods. It only takes about a week or sometimes even less.

It is a bit steep compared to other procedures. However, many of our patients have already invested in the procedure and have experienced positive results. Of course, our team of doctors and surgeons are both well-trained and very qualified to perform this kind of operation. If ever you have finally decided to go with this procedure, feel free to contact us, and we will discuss further the methods and areas where we can assist you.
