Is There a Way to Reverse Baldness?

When it happens, baldness is one of the nondeadly conditions that have a strong psychological effect on people.

We, as a society, put so much emphasis on the appearance of others when forming opinions about them. This is instinctive and won’t easily change. Thus, when someone undergoes major changes in how they look, this concerns them a lot.

They will likely start asking around to every doctor if there is a way to reverse baldness. It turns out there is not one but several.

Why Baldness Happens

Androgenetic alopecia, otherwise known as male/female pattern baldness, is a genetic condition passed by one or both parents. The genes that cause it can make you very sensitive to a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

There’s an enzyme inside our bodies called alpha 5 reductase. The alpha 5 reductase handles converting testosterone, the main male hormone, into dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

Meanwhile, DHT is a hormone that binds itself to the hormonal receptor in your hair follicles. Once there, it reacts with them, causing them to shrink progressively, leading to your hair thinning.

They will continue to shrink in time until they grow no longer. This is the cause of androgenetic alopecia, also known as male/female pattern baldness.

Ways to Reverse Baldness

Forget about the majority of products you see advertised on TV, social media, and elsewhere. Most do little for you if anything at all.

Only just a few things really deliver when it comes to helping to reverse baldness. Those things are the following.

Minoxidil

Also known as Rogaine. It is a topical, over-the-counter medication that stimulates the blood flow towards the area of the skin you apply it onto. The solution also packs nutrients for the hair follicle, which it supplies upon application.

It comes in two presentations, liquid and foam—both to apply on the skin and both equally effective. Note that minoxidil only helps your hair grow, but it does nothing to stop the causes of baldness.

Finasteride

Also known as Propecia. It’s a prescription medication that is only prescribed to men. It was initially used by patients with enlarged prostates, but soon after release, it showed a remarkable capacity to stop hair loss.

The drug works by preventing the release of the enzyme alpha 5 reductase in your body. By blocking that enzyme, DHT cannot be produced, and therefore, your hair follicles won’t shrink. Beware of the side effects of Propecia, though. A decrease in sexual desire is one of them.

Spironolactone

It is only prescribed to women. It helps to reduce the number of androgens within the body. Androgens are the male hormones, and blocking them prevents DHT from forming in the first place.

Thus, your hair follicles won’t shrink. Beware of its possible side effects: they include dizziness, thirst, vomiting, among others.

Reverse Baldness with a Hair Transplant

In the case where baldness already ravaged your hair, only an FUE hair transplant can help you recover it.

During an FUE hair transplant, the surgeon extracts healthy hair follicles from the back of your scalp one by one. They then graft those into the balding area using microincisions and leave them to settle and grow.

Our surgeons deliver seamless results by making sure that the grafts follow your hair’s natural growth pattern. Our prices are also affordable. Contact us if you are looking for the final answer to the problem of baldness.
