What is the DHI hair transplant method?

DHI hair transplant method is one of our most preferred operations in recent years. It is one of the application forms we use in hair transplantation procedures. DHI method is also known as “pen technique” or “direct hair transplantation”. DHI is not a hair transplant technique. This is actually an application method. Although the DHI method is a new application method, we prefer it quite a lot thanks to the advantages it provides.

DHI Hair Transplantation is the application of hair follicles taken from the area considered as donor to the area to be transplanted with the help of pens. Medical apparatus resembling a pen that helps the placement of grafts in the DHI method; It is possible to open channels and place roots at the same time. This helps the roots to be planted faster. The DHI hair transplant procedure, performed with local anesthesia, starts with the hair follicles being loosened with a special device and collected one by one. After the grafts are subjected to separation, they are planted in the planting area with a special pen.

What are the Advantages of DHI Hair Transplantation?

With the DHI method, hair follicles become more frequent. In this way, transplantation will result in a much more natural appearance. The medical pen used allows easier determination of the planting angle of the hair follicles, as well as opening holes in the width of the hair follicle in the transplantation area. Thus, the damage caused by the operation is minimal. There is almost no bleeding in this application without incision. Since the damage caused by the operation is minimal, the healing process is very fast. The DHI method does not harm existing hair.

DHI hair transplantation provides the chance to transplant directly to the required area. It provides an extra advantage to people whose hair loss is not complete. Since grooving and root placement can be done at the same time, grafts can be transplanted in a shorter time. Hair loss is less in hair transplantation with DHI method. Since the existing hair does not need to be shaved, it is an application method preferred by women. There is no scar after hair transplantation using DHI application method.

DHI and FUE Differences

In my DHI hair transplant, we do the hair follicles as in the FUE hair transplant technique. With the help of micro motors, we get it from the nape of the neck, rarely from the beard or chest. We plant it in the areas where the hair is shed and thinned. The following differences of the DHI Hair Transplantation technique begin after this point.

  • 3000-4500 grafts can be transplanted in a single session in the FUE technique, and 1500-2500 in a single session in the DHI technique.
  • The recovery time in the DHI technique is slightly shorter than the FUE technique and there is almost no bleeding.
  • FUE technique is the DHI method for planting in a larger area; It is the ideal method for more frequent planting.
  • Hair shaving is mandatory in the FUE technique, in the DHI technique, it is sufficient to shave only the donor area.
  • The cost of the equipment used in the DHI method is higher and the team is more crowded, so the cost is a little higher, FUE can be done more affordable.
  • While the FUE technique takes 6-8 hours, the DHI method takes a little longer.

How is the DHI Hair Transplant Technique Applied?

With the standard FUE technique, we classify grafts / follicular units (hair follicles) together in hair transplantation. We undergo a special healing process before the grafts are transplanted by the surgeon. Then, we place the grafts prepared for transplantation into the opened channels or incisions.

We can describe the DHI technique as a technique that is performed one by one. Unlike the strip cutting technique, we do not cut in the DHI technique. With a very thin needle, we create natural channels suitable for the natural exit angle of the hair. Then we do hair transplantation. Thanks to special needles, it is possible to place the grafts one after the other at the desired frequency.

DHI Hair Transplant Disadvantages

  • When we compare it with the standard FUE method, it will be correct to say that it is an operation that takes longer. Let’s explain this by providing an example. When the operation is performed with the FUE method at the rate of 4000 grafts, the whole procedure is sufficient in an average of 6 hours. If the DHI method is used at the same rate, a 6-hour procedure is required every day, two days.
  • DHI intervention requires a very meticulous and careful study. For this reason, the DHI method requires more budget.
  • The channel opening steps are different than the FUE method. Expertise in the DHI method is the most important issue.
  • When the roots are taken using the DHI method, there should not be any waiting. For this reason, while the roots are placed, it should be planted carefully, carefully, at equal angles and in equal directions.

How long is the DHI hair transplant procedure?

DHI hair transplantation process time may vary depending on the size of the area where hair transplantation is desired. Although the size of the hair transplantation area greatly affects the duration of the procedure, there are other factors that affect this period. We can list these factors as follows:

  • The size of the area to be transplanted,
  • The experience of the healthcare professional or doctor who will perform hair transplantation,
  • The method knowledge of the healthcare professional or doctor who will perform hair transplantation,
  • The structure of the scalp to be transplanted.

In the Fue method, 2000 thousand grafts are completed in 4 hours. This amount of grafts can be transplanted in 2 sessions, 4 hours in 2 days, in the DHI method.
